Gonna be a Simple day

I finished 3 tea towels. Was so nice to stitch again!

Today will be a simple laid back fun day.Little Shadow is with us .

Tomorrow we start care taking again. So for today we will play and have fun.

Nesting

Sun. mornings finds us at church, today we are nesting in. DS car broke down ,so he had to use ours for work .

I look forward to a day of rest and nesting in. Seems these special days are rare these days.

It will be nice to rest, sip a cup a......... ,do more stitching, just relax enjoy each others company to the fullest ,relax enjoy a simple day.

Stitchin'and a Sippin'

We are enjoying some Beautiful weather . Really cool nights and mornings. Open windows no air, no fans.My Fav kind of weather!

Our summer has been filled with caretaking, putting up food., along with life's everyday stress.So for today I am taking a Break and stitchin' tea towels and sippin' tea.

My sister and Bro.-N-Law is sick ,so we have Little Shadow ,she is helping me stitch.She Loves doing Big Kid stuff.She calls me a Big Kid. lol

My Bro. is in the hoispital ,may come home today.

My Mother-N-law gets worse daily.

Please remember them in your prayers.

Rain ... And A Cold Front

Hot Pepper Chow-Chow

Do you find the days are flying by these days? I do!

I've been making jalapeno chow-chow. Its a basic chow-chow recipe and i chopped 6 peppers and put in. The sm. jar I will put in the fridge.

Our temps has cooled down.I welcome that! I look forward to putting up some fall crops, apples, pumpkins, squash ,sweet pots.,greens etc.Making hot tamales for the freezer.

Summer time

One Day At A Time

I try to stay away from the news. Today there was something I wanted to watch.While waiting for what I wanted to watch, they interviewed a guy(an expert) who said he thinks the economy is going to double dip. I didn't think we really came out of the first one. What do you think?

We can only Hope and Pray for the best! And take one day at a time, just the way God gives them to us!

I know I said..........

We are retired now,but busier than ever.(caretaking & canning and freezing) I see I did not upload my pix. in order. I'm tired.
As you can see I've been Putting up food.

I froze corn, and made corn relish. Also blueberries in 1st pic.

If you read my blog, you know we can no longer raise corn, raccoons gets more than we do.

DS is Produce Manager at our local grocery (Food City), they buy their fruits and veggies as much as possible from local Farmers. Now that corn season is here ,he bought 3 bags of corn and brought by Sat.

The store is trying to be as earth friendly as possible.The store where he works won for saving the most money this quarter. Another thing I like about the store the Produce Managers goes on a field trip to all the local Farmers , tour the field ,go to a park and have a picnic from all local grown food. I think with all the hands on its good , if a customer has questions they can answer better. I'm not trying to promote the grocery store .

I can and freeze as much of our food as I can. I like to know what we're eating.

I like autumn foods also . Bobby Sue if youre reading this ,corn will be part of our Thanksgiving feast!Come on Up!:o)

It's Official

We're now in our sunset years of life. Seems we're busier than ever!

The first Soc. Sec. arrived last wk. Altho it's as tho we've been retired the past few yrs. with DH being laid off ! We do enjoy being together 24x7, and we do realize every couple doesn't enjoy that as we do .

What Is Your Most Requested Dish?

Mine is potato Salad . I make it like my Mom did. I don't use a recipe .

I cube up pots. cook until tender I let them get cold.
I chop up 1 onion, 1 bell pepper ,a few stalks of celery, a few boiled eggs, a few big spoonfuls of sweet relish.Add Mayo and mix.

When we go to a gathering I use 5lbs of pots. if its just use I use about 9 . I always make it a day before I use it to let all the flavors blend.WE always have it for a couple meals .

Been a busy wk. I put up more food (Here "put up food" can or freezing food)
We had 2 storms today alot of good needed rain!

Counting my Blessings

With the temps rising ,care taking, putting up food,everyday stress,etc.,sometimes life gets a bit overwhelming ! I'm trying to take time

to count my Blessings! It does help a Great deal! Gives me a chance to regroup!

Christmas In July

I know most folks doesn't want to think of Christmas in July . For us crafter's its a must if we have crafts made for Fall and Winter shows. So its that time again crank the ole AC up turn the Christmas music on , get in the Christmas crafting mood.

Making Sweet Memories

Little shadow wants to cook each trip here. Most of the time she wants to make a cake.

I've eaten this cake before but never made it, it is super easy to make.

Coconut Pecan Pound Cake

1 box yellow cake mix 1 box instant vanilla pudding ( I used coconut pudding)

3/4c oil

1c.milk 3 eggs

1c chopped pecans 1c.coconut

Combine all ingredients and blend well.Pour into a well greased tubed pan bake 375 for 1 hr.

Glaze:

1c.powdered sugar 1Tbsp. milk 1tsp. vanilla

Mix well and pour over hot cake punching holes with meat fork. let cool in pan .

I also made glaze and poured over cake after removing from pan I should of made it a bit thicker .

Fruit salad

1 can peach pie filling 1 can fruit cocktail drained 1 can pineapple chunks drained

Mix together and chill

You can use any type fruit also pie filling Its quick and easy and good.

You can also put in a sm. container of frozen strawberries do not thaw.

It must have worn Little Shadow out she is napping lol Today is our caretaking day for Dh Mom ,she and little Shadow enjoy each other very much!

Living Green

Being green has always been a way of live for me .Long before it was popular. I don't do everything green, but as much as I can.I make most of my cleaning supplies, I do buy one now and then to find most doesn't work any better than what I can make. I try to use cloth bags as much as possible,cloth cleaning rags. I wash clothes in cold water. Hang alot to air dry.

I have alot of vintage bowls etc. I use daily with glass lids, so no need for plastic wrap or tin foil.I can and freeze as much of our food as possible.

We use this shower timer with an air glass in the shower. All sinks and shower heads has water savers, we use only compact light bulbs. I cook alot in a crock pot, on a hot plate, and use a toaster oven as much as possible.I use as much rain water as I can, I wash dishes in dish pans and use the water to water plants. I buy as much as possible 2nd hand .Recycle as much as possible .Our washer,dryer, freezer,stove,fridge is energy star products. We did replace these with new when we did our reno hoping it will be the last time we have to replace them.

When having to go in the car we make each trip count and plan it where we can do as much as possible each trip out.

I was taught waste not want not, If it aint broke don't fix it. I think alot of our Parents and Grandparents ways that we seemed to get away from through the years, we're finding was the way to go and going back to them.

I know alot of folks doesn't like to discuss death (doesn't bother me) yesterday our newspaper had a write up about a funeral home here going green. Natural ways to bury our Loved ones.

And how more and more folks are choosing to go that route. Also said more folks are bringing their Loves ones body home for viewing,I haven't seen that since 1970s.

I do alot more green living . I think we have to be very careful trying to do green living,I think there's companies out there after money and the products are not worth buying,I also think what works for one household doesn't not work for every household. We just have to find what works for us and go with it. And not do it just because its the latest fad and the cool thing to do.
