Faith,Books,and Hope

I think these days everyone is concerned ,and should be! The past few days I've been busy stockpiling and reading up on some favorite books, these are just a few. I read my Bible daily Good or Bad times. I find it uplifting, and I know God will see us through. He says he will provide our needs, not our Wants or Greeds. I think we must do our part also.
I bought Carla Emery's book The Encyclopedia of Country Living, some yrs. back.It is Loaded with lots of valueable info. I bought The Kerr cookbook yrs. ago .I have other canning cookbooks that are great also.
We have our share of stress ,I was raised here and taught how to live off the land ,I know these ways and Love living them. My "Little Shadow" is the 6th Generation here and I am teaching her our ways. She is 3 now and Loves helping and learning, I think you have to make learning fun .Kids Love to garden sowing carrots is fun for them, also a pizza garden toms., herbs you would use on a pizza those type plants. If you have room a circle shape garden with plant planted into a slice of pizza is really fun. Just takes a sm. space. I think kids enjoys flower beds(gardening) also. Who doesn't Love fresh cut flowers.:o)Also canning is a fun way for kids to learn ,helping break beans etc. depends on their age as to what they can do. We have a little friends who has stayed with us durning the yrs. she is 12 and I Love to see her excitiment when we cook and serve foods she's helped can.
I was shocked to hear kids when ask where does a certain food come from and they give a grocery store name. I know its how we're raise, I didn't realize food could be bought in a tin can until I was an older child ,I thought it was all in a jar.lol
When I was a kid we ate alot of wild life or butchered our own meat. I've never been much of a meat eater ,never cared for the taste but was taught how to clean fish, chickens etc. We can buy a beef or hog and have it butchered. DS is a Meatcutter.I know to some of you that may sound "GROSS" but when it's a way of life you do it or do without.
I was taught to make my own cleaning products. That was L-O-N-G before Living green was the thing to do. I was taught how to cook over an open fire, As a kid I gathered wild greens with my Grandmother,(also Mom) some sweet memories and so Thankful they took time to teach me so much . They taught me how to use recipes to feed my Family example water gravy, bis.,cornbread (use water instead of milk) Its not something you'd make daily unless you had no choice.
They taught me to sew, mend,be saving.Waste Not want not. So much more they taught me.
I think in times like this if we put our Faith in God, do our part, read books and learn as much as possible , or find someone willing to teach, there is "HOPE" and This too shall pass!
I don't know it all, there's alot I want to learn, DH will be laid off 1 yr. next month. And All our needs has been meet this last yr. .For that we are VERY THANKFUL!:o)
Hope everyone has a Great week end.
Keep your Faith and Hope and things will turn around !

I had thought to ask you "What is a simple life?"... but I think you just described it. I know how to can.. just haven't done it in a while... haven't had a garden for a number of years... but this year we're planting one...

We cut wood and used a wood heater after the 1970 gas shortage... and it was good heat and I didn't mind bringing in the wood...but then our house caught fire.. and we went back to gas (central heat)...

During that time all our children were home and helped eat up all the food I canned and froze... Now it is just the two of us and we have found it easier to just buy what we need...

I think I can live the simple life... but I sure would miss the computer, telephone, tv, etc... but I could read like we used to do..

I am so happy that your needs are met. God is so good!!

Hard to believe your hubby has been off work for almost a year already...I'm glad to hear, though, that your needs have been met so far. As you say, having faith is half the battle!! I, too, was raised on learning how to can/preserve food grown in the garden and our meat was usually moose meat that dad would go hunting for. With only dad working and 5 kids to feed, we didn't have a lot but we were happy because mom & dad taught us to appreciate the simple things:-) Kids these days don't know the meaning of "simple"...they just don't know what they're missing. xoxo

Hello Lib
Dropped in to say Hello - you seem to be coping very well with the challenges of life at the moment even if 'others' think you must have all the modern trappings of life.
I tend to think if your emotional needs are catered for the rest will fall into place.
'Where theres a will theres a way'
Take care

Wonderful post , Lib. DH's work is slow and they're talking more lay-offs in four weeks if the economy doesn't take get better.
It's scary to watch the news night after night , more lay-offs and businesses closing. I know God will see us through it , we have to faith and the courage to change with the times.

Love the idea of creating a " Pizza Garden " , Curious Jake and I might grow one this year , he loves pizza.

Thanks , for a wonderful , thought provoking post , Faith at it's best.

Good morning Miz lib,
I'm a day late again as usual, but better late than never huh? LOL. I do enjoyed your post for today. It is so true. We should all be in GOD's word during these trying times. If you ask me, I really think tht GOD will be coming back for his people sooner than we think. Too many things have happened that was in the Bible. The world is in such bad shape and I don't think GOD is going to let HIS people suffer alot. I love wild greens also. I used to go with my EX-Mother in law poke salad hunting. LOL. We used to find some mustard greens also. I love me some Turnips as well. As high asgroceries are these days we may have to go back to growing our own food butchering our own meats. Most kids today coulsdn't survive in those hard times I dont't think. Like you said, we must all rely on GOD adn keep the Faith. Take care my friend and have a great weekend. May GOD BLess you and yours.
Love,
KAREN H.

Hi Lib....my granma pretty much raised me until I was 10 and I learned so many wonderful things standing right next to her. Cooking, sewing, gardening etc..to me they were always fun and I have the best memories of the good old days. One thing I never leaned was how to can and that is something I've always wanted to so with someone. During these times we do need to remember is it a want or a need. I still struggle with this but I'm getting better...hugs, Linda

p.s. I love the pizza garden.....now that is fun...L

Hi Lib... I can't believe it's been almost a year...and in that year God has done so much hasn't HE? We are all so very blessed and spoiled rotten... We all may have to live off the land before it's over... not that I know much about that...but mom does and so do her sisters.

I pray that God continues to meet all your needs and even your wants... He provides.

Love you dear friend..

Jess

Thanks for this. My husband was just laid off. It's funny the peace we both feel though. I am hoping God will take this opportunity to move us somewhere that we can homestead/hobby farm, but I am leaving the decisions to my wonderful man. I am spending my time here learning about small gardening and sewing. My girls are learning to knit and crochet. I'm experimenting with learning how to make my own cleaners.
I love your list and will definatly be trying to implement some more stuff around our city dwelling.
