Hello Kitty

Living in the country seems everyone who doesn't want their pets , think we want them all.

Use to be dogs set out , now cats. I can NOT imagine setting out the Family pet!!!!!!

We feed them and have 2 cat houses for them to sleep in, and we have cat therapy daily (pet them to get them use to people) so they want be so wild.
This group is great mousers.Altho I could do without them bringing them and laying on the porch for us to reward them .

Late this afternoon when the mail man arrived ,he brought Little Shadow a pkg. from Mrs. Linda(Somewhere In Time) .Little Shadow was thrilled, it had one of her Favorites Hello Kitty items inside.

My heart breaks for Little Shadow .Her first Christmas without her Dad. She doesn't understand why her Daddy had to leave her.

Each Christmas eve my Family gathers at my Sisters for our Christmas eve supper. I dread it for her. I offered to have it here, and our Bro. offered to have it at his house, but she insist on having it at her house. It will be a double day for her, not only is it Christmas but it would of been Jason's Birthday.She was here last night , she broke down and she said thoe closer Christmas gets the harder it gets for her. He was her only child.

Little Shadow called not long ago they we baking cookies ,she was so excitied and singing Christmas songs. I'm just thankful Little Shadow is able to be excitied about Christmas.

We had an ice storm come through last night, it thawed today and will refreeze tonight . It was 44 today and 50s tomorrow I Welcome that!

Snow and cold

We have snow and more headed our way. Its been bitter cold.

Little Shadow has been here. Santa brought her Christmas gifts here Sun. he does this yrly. about 2 wks. before Christmas , then brings gifts to her home Christams eve. She spent the last 2 nights here, we had fun playing .

Santa Came

Old Fashion Apple Stack Cake

An old fashion apple stack cakes has to be part of our holidays, only because it has always been .

The cake disc is a cookie when they cool you put dried apples cooked smooth with sugar, cloves and cin. between the layers it softens the layers up. Its best when made ahead of time.

My Mother-N-Law made the best I have ever eaten , she is with us I ask if she wanted to join Little Shadow and I making this, she showed no interest. :o( Wicked Illness!!!!!

If anyone would like the recipe let me know in a comment.

Little Shadow had fun helping . She had to leave but will be back tomorrow to help me cook.

DH and Little Shadow took the turkey out of the freezer also a ham .

Our 1st Holidays without Little Shadows Dad. I always made him a green pea salad and pecan pie for the holidays (in between also) the wk. he passed away I made him a gr. pea salad. I want be making them this year. It will be so hard for my Sis. &Bro.-n-law he was their only child.

Little Shadow wants me to buy a balloon for her to release to her Dad. We do this from time to time she Loves sending messages to her Dad in Heaven. My sister told her when she finds a penny its Pennies from heaven from her Dad. Almost every time we go out she finds pennies. She was writing her list for Santa to bring to my house for her, Broke my heart she wanted a box of Pennies from her Dad in Heaven. Her wish will be Granted!

With the Sadness of losing a Loved one we must work hard to make Little Shadows Holidays Happy and Bright!

Simple

I Love Simple things! I collect red/white handle items for the kitchen .Last yr. I found Little shadow this set of pots/pans etc. I thought it would make a good Kitchen tree, I does look better in person for some reason the colored lights didnt show in the pic.

This yr. Im going with smaller trees alot are dec. when I bought them . Makes dec. so much easier.

Fun Busy

What a Fun Busy week .:o) It is so quite without our Callie! So it has been good to be so busy!

A cousin came home on a spur of the moment, she knew she couldn't make it for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year. We had to celebrate ,so got busy putting up trees and decs. We had our Holiday meal with my side of the Family cousins. Had a great time.

The pic is Little Shadows little tree , I found some sun catcher (Christmas) at Dollar Tree, she painted and we hung for decs. Thought it would be fun to give her when shes older.

I know its early for alot of folks to dec. so I will wait and show you the other trees.

Sat. we had Thanksgiving at DH Mom's .

Our Dear Friend will be here this coming week ,can't wait been about 5 yrs. since we've been able to visit other than phone calls or emails.

In Loving Memory

As of 8:18 a.m. today our Beloved Callie Boxer Girl ,went to Doggie Heaven. She will be Missed!!
She was almost 10 yrs. old.

Also 4 yrs. ago today one of my Best Friends Treasure Kay Passed away. Yes, her name was Treasure,her Dad named her said she was his Treasure. I miss her in so many ways . We gardened, had tea parties. She was so wonderful to my Mom durning her illness, she came to see her wkly. shes fix her hair or do her nails. She was so Loving and kind to everyone.

My Little Shadow and I have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. We have all our grocery shopping finish and put away except last min. items.

We are cleaning house , all those favorite things to do washing walls, windows etc. lol

Mother Nature

We've had storms all around us, we we're Blessed no damage! We had 2 trees than was leaning toward our house. I was a nervous wreck! So Dh call a tree service. They came out today and cut them. We try to stay on top of cutting trees as needed ,these were just too big for us.
So Thankful its behind us now.
we had alot of wind blowing and quite a bit of rain , otherwise o.k.

Great GrandPa

My Great Grandpa made this pie safe . Thru the yrs. the drawers and doors were removed (unknown reason to me) I painted it red to match my other free standing cabinets. I keep Vintage items from Family in it. I keep wresting with the idea should I have drawers and doors made for it? Would it take away from his handy work ? Should I leave it as is? I've used it for different storage thru the yrs. the last ,I stored Family quilts in it.

For now I will enjoy it as is. I'm sure before its all said and done I'll know should I have it redone or leave as is. I cherish Family Treasure's but this is the only one I can't quite decide which way to go. 6 Generations here, I try to keep things as close as I can to the ways of the ones before me.

Are You Ready?

Ready or Not , the Holidays will be here SOON!Are you ready for your Thanksgiving Meal? I have everything except the turkey and last min. items. This yr. will be Bitter Sweet. Our first yr. with out Little Shadows Dad. The Sweet part a Dear Friend(B.E.) will be up from Fl. to share Thanksgiving with us , and other friends we dont see wkly. I Love cooking for Thanksgiving.The yr. Mom passed , my Brother thought it would be good for us to go out and eat, no cooking , no dishes to wash etc. I told them from now on I'll do all the cooking lol if I have to , it just didnt seem like Tgiving. I did appreciate his concern though.Mom and I cooked for 2 days for Holidays .

Are you ready for Christmas? I buy or make things yr. around for gift giving, so I am finished.

We always have Tgiving here ,and Christmas eve supper at my sister's, she is Little Shadow's Dad's Mom, so we may have Christmas eve here also.She isnt sure yet what she want's to do.

My house hold always has a big country Breakfast on Christmas Morning .When My parents lived here we started the breakfast. The Dr. told My Dad not to eat Country Ham, we figured he'd be safe once a yr. on Christmas morning.lol It was a hit ,and after they passed everyone wanted to keep it going. We have Country ham, sausage, bacon, bis. ,gravy,eggs,fruit,honey, homemade jellies and jams,cof,milk, juice. My Dad loved sliced toms. on bis. so does my Bro. and DH so we keep that going also.

What are something you do to make Holidays Special for your Loved ones, I Love making Happy Memories!!!!!!

Waste Not want not

Have the last of toms. cooking to can . Added garlic, bell peppers, celery ,and onions. Alot of folks I suppose wouldn't take time to cook this last sm. pot , but I tend to think waste not want not. With all the other canned toms. I made I'll have a good sulppy for the winter.

I hope to can pears, and apples also make pear and apple butter before I call it quits for the season.

Want to make Hot Tamales for the freezer. I like to make about 10-15 doz. Now days I have to take 2-3 days to make that many ,since I make them alone. I sure miss my Sweet Mom in so many ways!!!!!!!!!!

Vintage bedroom

The past three weeks has been Super Busy!!!!!!! We are having to bring DH Mom here more often, so we had to scramble to turn our 3rd bedroom from a Home Office to a bedroom. I went with a Vintage theme. We painted the walls maroon .You can't see the vintage dress clear.It's been in my Family for yrs.

Does anyone remember the white Potty? No, its not used ,just for looks. lolI have several of these vintage tables from Family members. I think they maybe called Half Moon tables.

The iron bed is from an Uncle and Aunt of mine. I Love Family Treasure's!

We had to rearrange most every room to make one small bedroom. I gave Family Treasure's to my sister for Little Shadow. Somethings went to the thrift store.

I hope now I can catch up and stay on top of posting .

Nesting

Sun. mornings finds us at church, today we are nesting in. DS car broke down ,so he had to use ours for work .

I look forward to a day of rest and nesting in. Seems these special days are rare these days.

It will be nice to rest, sip a cup a......... ,do more stitching, just relax enjoy each others company to the fullest ,relax enjoy a simple day.

Stitchin'and a Sippin'

We are enjoying some Beautiful weather . Really cool nights and mornings. Open windows no air, no fans.My Fav kind of weather!

Our summer has been filled with caretaking, putting up food., along with life's everyday stress.So for today I am taking a Break and stitchin' tea towels and sippin' tea.

My sister and Bro.-N-Law is sick ,so we have Little Shadow ,she is helping me stitch.She Loves doing Big Kid stuff.She calls me a Big Kid. lol

My Bro. is in the hoispital ,may come home today.

My Mother-N-law gets worse daily.

Hot Pepper Chow-Chow

Do you find the days are flying by these days? I do!

I've been making jalapeno chow-chow. Its a basic chow-chow recipe and i chopped 6 peppers and put in. The sm. jar I will put in the fridge.

Our temps has cooled down.I welcome that! I look forward to putting up some fall crops, apples, pumpkins, squash ,sweet pots.,greens etc.Making hot tamales for the freezer.

One Day At A Time

I try to stay away from the news. Today there was something I wanted to watch.While waiting for what I wanted to watch, they interviewed a guy(an expert) who said he thinks the economy is going to double dip. I didn't think we really came out of the first one. What do you think?

We can only Hope and Pray for the best! And take one day at a time, just the way God gives them to us!

I know I said..........

We are retired now,but busier than ever.(caretaking & canning and freezing) I see I did not upload my pix. in order. I'm tired.
As you can see I've been Putting up food.

I froze corn, and made corn relish. Also blueberries in 1st pic.

If you read my blog, you know we can no longer raise corn, raccoons gets more than we do.

DS is Produce Manager at our local grocery (Food City), they buy their fruits and veggies as much as possible from local Farmers. Now that corn season is here ,he bought 3 bags of corn and brought by Sat.

The store is trying to be as earth friendly as possible.The store where he works won for saving the most money this quarter. Another thing I like about the store the Produce Managers goes on a field trip to all the local Farmers , tour the field ,go to a park and have a picnic from all local grown food. I think with all the hands on its good , if a customer has questions they can answer better. I'm not trying to promote the grocery store .

I can and freeze as much of our food as I can. I like to know what we're eating.

I like autumn foods also . Bobby Sue if youre reading this ,corn will be part of our Thanksgiving feast!Come on Up!:o)
